Position Summary:

Swink Coplen & Company, P.C. is searching for a Staff Accountant to join our expanding firm.  The successful candidate will fill a key role within the company, supporting various aspects of tax and advisory services.  This individual should have a working knowledge of general accounting practices and will work closely with experienced team members to prepare federal, state, and city tax returns and brainstorm solutions for our client growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with tax/accounting services including planning, research, and compliance
  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership and other types of returns
  • Complete tax related research and special projects as needed
  • Handle IRS and state taxing authorities’ correspondence
  • Assist clients with tax related questions and the collection of necessary documents to complete tax returns
  • Calculate federal and state quarterly estimates and annual extensions
  • Work closely and directly communicate with partners, managers, and other team members
  • Glean opportunities to provide additional services to clients outside of tax preparation
  • Exhibit a desire to understand more complex business transactions and related issues
  • Attend and participate in firm wide and department meetings

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 1-3 years’ experience working with a CPA firm
  • Pursuing CPA credential
  • Familiar with AICPA Professional Code of Conduct
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Experience working with CCH Access software a plus, but not required
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision, at times
  • Ready and willing to accept complex assignments in addition to routine tax work
  • Must possess excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and desire to develop and maintain client relationships

Responsibilities:

  • Experience preparing individual, business, multi-state corporate, consolidated tax and S corporation tax returns for small to medium sized businesses
  • Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards
  • Performs supervised technical research in situations requiring judgment and formulation of alternative courses of action
  • Performs as a resource in designated areas for tax questions and issues from both tax and client accounting services staff
  • Assists with tax administration projects assigned by managers and partners
  • Meets with prospective clients and cultivates prospects through referral sources
  • Develops client relationships through business and social meetings
  • Glean opportunities to provide additional services to clients outside of tax preparation
  • Industry experience in REITS, real estate, mitigation banking a plus
  • Attend and participate in firm wide and department meetings

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience; working with a CPA firm for minimum 4 years
  • Licensed CPA
  • Familiar with AICPA Professional Code of Conduct
